Little dogs can sleep almost anywhere, but the big dog breeds like German Shepherds, Great Danes, Saint Bernards & many others need a large dog bed to call their own.

All dog owners know that the bed a dog most prefers is the owner’s bed.  No matter if it’s a king size, queen size, single, double or a cot, if the owner is sleeping in it then the dog wants to be sleeping in it too.  This can pose a problem, however, especially when it comes to the smaller sized beds since a large dog and a large human in a small bed do not provide for enough room while sleeping.

Sometimes even smaller humans in a larger bed with a medium sized dog also do not allow enough room to move around.  Dogs somehow manage to find the only spot on the bed that the owner needs to use in the middle of the night, they will find that the dog is occupying that spot and won’t move no matter how much you shove poke and prod.  Because of this, manufacturers have been making dog beds in varying shapes and sizes for years now.

For big dogs that need a lot of space, a large dog bed can be purchased that will be comfortable and welcoming to them.  They can be made from a number of different materials and in a number of different styles, enough styles to be able to find one that blends in with the rest of your home furnishings.  Thought should also go into how easily it can be cleaned since it will have to be washed every so often.  Tossing it into the washing machine would be the most simple method but not all dog beds are able to have this done to them so pay close attention to this as you are making your purchase.

Depending on the dog breed, thought should also go into the type of fabric based on your dog’s fur coat.  Some dogs are naturally oily, like the retriever breeds, so that water can roll right off their backs after a day of hunting.  They tend to be more difficult to keep clean because of their natural oils in their coats that collect dirt and smells.  A soft bed might look nice and comfortable to them but it will have a tendency to trap the odors within and need to be washed more often.  A bed made with denim might be a better choice for those breeds.

Sometimes even a smaller dog would prefer a large dog bed, giving them room to move about and even store their favorite toy or blanket in with them.  They would essentially have their own small room to go and rest in after a long day of playing.

If your dog is still a puppy, consider purchasing a large bed that is resistant to chewing.  Puppies especially like to chew on things as they grow, helping their teeth to break through as they are teething.  Some breeds are also known for having bad chewing habits, a lot of times because the dog is bored and not getting enough exercise or attention.  Having a chewing resistant bed can help to keep your dogs bed in one piece.

If you own one of the large dog breeds there are a number of other options available for your big canine best friend.  How about a donut dog bed, a dog sofa bed or dog crate bed.  You can find both discount dog beds & luxury dog beds to suit any taste & budget.  Towards the luxury end of the scale is the memory foam dog bed & of course the designer dog bed for the truly pampered pooch.  If your large dog is getting on a bit in years you may need a large orthopedic dog bed or a heated dog bed.

Thank you for stopping by at Large Dog Bed.
